- October 12, 2011
Written and Illustrated by Linda M. Brandt
Looking for a book that is inspirational and helps teach one of life's many lessons? Well, Henry's Life As A Tulip Bulb or Developing an Attitude of Gratitude, is the book for you! This precious book is a beautifully illustrated coffee table book that has a message for all ages. This whimsical tale is a delightful story about growing through unexpected changes. Henry's story will lead you through the seasons of life! Henry's experience of living comfortably on a grocery store shelf and then being ripped out of his bag, placed in the dark, cold ground, having manure stomped on his head is an example of Linda's life. Henry turns into a beautiful tulip and realizes that had he stayed "comfortable" he never would have become the beautiful flower he was meant to be. This book is perfect for classroom discussions and children will want to read this book over and over again! I highly recommend this book for your child's library collection.
Author and Illustrator Linda M. Brandt
Linda M. Brandt Artist, presents a wide and variegated portfolio of both spiritual and secular paintings. Her style is late impressionist with the influences of the Pont-Aven (Nabi) and Fauve turn of the century schools. Drawing since the age of four, Linda landed her first professional job illustrating political cartoons at the age of nineteen. With a background in both formal and personal training, Linda continues to illustrate a totally unique style of color and design.
Linda's work has hung in Europe and is in the homes of private collectors, including several Ohio political figures, the late President Ronald Reagan, and past Ohio Governor, Senator George Voinovich.
In addition to her famous portaits, Linda is also well known for her life like murals of Tuscan Vineyards and Floral Gardens. With numerous awards during her art career, she has been featured as WTLW-TV's Art Director and has been at the helm of many International companies, designing and marketing new and successful products.
I had the opportunity to ask Linda about the inspiration behind the book. Linda shared that the inspiration came when she lost her son, Scott, to a drunk driver. Two years later she was diagnosed with a very rare and serious brain tumor of which nearly 25% of her brain had to be removed. After the ten and half hour surgery, Linda developed spinal meningitis and had a near death experience where her son was with her. Linda shared that one of the reasons that "she returned" was that Henry The Tulip Bulb, needed to be brought to the world's attention and people needed to know how an Attitude of Gratitude can change a life! Linda shared that it took her three years to learn to walk, drive and paint again, but through it all, she learned from that still, soft Voice quietly urging her on.
Linda began painting once more after months of rehabilitation, learning to walk, drive again, and by the prayers and love of her family and friends. Most of all, Linda believes in the Grace of God. Collectors of Linda's work believe it is more inspirational and dramatic than before as she shares her "triumph over tragedy" through the gift of art.
